About Baltic Shale

Baltic Shale, one of Earth's most readily accessible natural resources, is a marinite-type of black shale. The oil shale is found throughout Estonia, as the energy resource constitutes about 4% of Estonia's gross domestic product. Of all the power stations in the world that are fired by oil shale, the two largest are to be found in Estonia. Most mined oil shale is used for electricity generation, accounting for about 85% of Estonia's total electricity production. For more information about this European Shale, please click here.
